### Model Overview

Proteus delivers high quality results across a wide range of sources and is recommended as the default model for most common video upscaling projects. A versatile, general purpose enhancement model for upscaling, denoising, and sharpening a wide range of low to medium quality video sources.

Proteus performs especially well on low to medium quality footage, including old, grainy, or heavily compressed video.

### Best Use Cases

* **General camera footage.** A reliable default for modern and older video.
* **All-in-one enhancement.** Upscale, denoise, and sharpen in one filter.
* **Compressed sources.** Recover detail lost to streaming and web compression.
* **Fine-tuned pipelines.** Set each parameter manually for consistent results across a project.
* **Pre-generative cleanup.** Clean footage before a Starlight pass.

### Model Parameters

Model parameters go inside the filter object in `filters`.

Proteus uses the Precision filter parameter set. Every parameter below is optional except `model`; any value you don't send is estimated automatically.

| Parameter                    | Type      | Required / Default | Accepted values                                            | Description                                                                                                                                    |
| ---------------------------- | --------- | ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `model`                      | `string`  | Required           | `"prob-4"`                                                 | —                                                                                                                                              |
| `videoType`                  | `string`  | Optional           | `"Progressive"`, `"Interlaced"`, `"ProgressiveInterlaced"` | Frame/field type of the source.                                                                                                                |
| `auto`                       | `string`  | Optional           | `"Auto"`, `"Manual"`, `"Relative"`                         | Parameter mode. `Auto` estimates every value, `Relative` nudges the estimated values by the amounts you send, `Manual` uses your values as-is. |
| `fieldOrder`                 | `string`  | Optional           | `"TopFirst"`, `"BottomFirst"`, `"Auto"`                    | Field order for interlaced sources.                                                                                                            |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://developer.topazlabs.com/video-models/upscaling-and-enhancement/precision/proteus.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
